Jotun transforms training with global VR rollout

After identifying new use cases within innovative educational technology, Jotun is investing heavily in VR equipment.

Big savings with VR trainings

As a global paints and coatings manufacturer, Jotun started looking into the VR (Virtual Reality) space several years ago. Now, we are taking it a significant step further. 70 VR sets have been sent from the Jotun Group's head office in Sandefjord, Norway to production facilities and regional offices all over the world. The purpose is to streamline education and training in basic and crucial routines for our employees.


"To us in Jotun, VR is so much more than a cool gimmick. It is a cost efficient and highly useful tool", says Magnus Mackay, head of technology in Jotun's learning and development department.

No risk

One of the most important use cases is VR based training for factory operators. The VR equipment enables them to perform necessary trainings on key tasks without risking their own health nor a halt in production. Office based employees also get to use the technology. One example is virtual training modules on presentation skills, allowing them to practice in front of a life-like audience and receive feedback on aspects such as body language and messaging.

 

Improved outcome

VR simulation delivers value in multiple ways. For a global player like Jotun, it is both cost and time effective. In addition, comes the high-quality learning outcome.
  
"The virtual presence provides an immersive learning experience, and we see that VR contributes to both faster and better training", says Mackay.

Jotun is among the first industrial companies in Norway to adopt VR on a large scale. The company expects that VR technology will play an increasingly important role going forward.
